City marks World Environmental Health Day with Lagoon Beach clean-up

In celebration of World Environmental Health Day on Friday, 26 September, the City’s anti-litter mascot Bingo, joined forces with Lactalis South Africa for a community beach clean-up at Lagoon Beach, Milnerton.
The initiative highlights the importance of keeping our environment clean and safe by reinforcing the Urban Waste Management Directorate’s core message, Bin it in the Bingo Bin.
Bingo, joined the staff of Lactalis South Africa who rolled up their sleeves to remove litter and plastic pollution from the shoreline and the surrounds at the Milnerton Lagoon. Clean-ups like these not only protect marine life and improve the beauty of our beaches, but also raise awareness about how individual actions can protect the health of communities and ecosystems.
‘When we reduce litter and pollution, we reduce risks to both people and the planet. The Bin it in the Bingo Bin campaign is about reminding every resident that the small act of placing waste in the Bingo bin keeps our city clean, healthy and resilient,’ said Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Waste Management, Alderman Grant Twigg.The City thanks Lactalis South Africa for partnering on this impactful clean-up, and encourages residents across Cape Town to honour World Environmental Health Day by keeping their streets, beaches, and public spaces litter-free.
